This year's annual conference was held at the St Regis Hotel in Beijing, China from 18-21 October, and attracted a wide selection of members from independent law and accounting firm members in 26 countries.

In the country to make and renew professional contacts and learn more about China's fast-growing economy, delegates were treated to a programme that highlighted the important changes that continue to take place in the country and the resultant opportunities. A meeting agenda that focused primarily on practice management issues and the practicalities of doing business in China was complemented by a varied social programme that took delegates to the Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden City, as well as to exclusive evening dinners at The China Club, 798 and CJW.

Giles Brake, MSI's marketing manager, also provided a glimpse of MSI's soon-to-be-launched social networking platform (new website) known as MemberLink. The new site will enable better information sharing and communications among members as they look for new opportunities to build their practices across borders and extend with their clients into new markets. The new site is due for launch later in November.

Delegates were also formally introduced to new member firms from San Francisco (Collette Erickson Farmer & O'Neill - lawyers), Hong Kong (ONC Lawyers), Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar Audit Corporation), and Boise, Idaho, USA (Zarian Midgley Johnson - lawyers).
We would once again like to extend our thanks to local member firms LehmanBrown and Lehman Lee & Xu for their support in making the conference such a success, and to ONC Lawyers for hosting a post-event dinner in Hong Kong. We look forward to seeing members at next year's 20th Annual Conference in Toronto.
